Hello, students and parents. My name is Jay Koo and I’ve been an SAT coach for over twenty years. My career began in New Jersey in 1991 when I became a teacher for a large nationally-known test preparation company. My formal training prepared me not only to teach for the SAT math and verbal sections, but also for the SAT IIs, the GMAT, the GRE, and the LSAT. I earned high performance ratings and became a director within six months. After helping thousands of students prep for the SATs, I was selected to become a “master trainer,” someone who trains and certifies new teachers.

In 1995 my employers offered me the opportunity to help open a franchise in Korea. Our test preparation center worked mostly with high school students returning home from prep schools in the U.S. We helped to increase their test scores, and word spread. The facility had such rapid success that I soon found myself working fourteen hour days, seven days a week. I was asked to tutor the children of CEOs of major Korean conglomerates such as Hyundai, LG, and Samsung, and I even personally tutored a son of a former Korean president.

After working for nine years abroad, I returned to the United States with a desire to apply what I’d learned in the “corporate testing world” – but with a more personal, student-centered ethos. I had become disillusioned with the company’s eagerness to increase class sizes and shorten instruction hours. With my own company, I could put students’ interests first.
