Private Tutoring
Individual Tutoring for the SAT I & ACT
Students choose individual tutoring for one of several reasons. Some always do better with individual attention. Others have taken classes elsewhere but didn’t score as highly as desired. Still others are involved in extracurricular activities that preclude them from attending regularly scheduled test prep sessions.
Initial Consultation
I usually meet with my individual tutoring students once a week. Because of the homework involved, it is impractical to meet more frequently; throughout the preparation process, students take 8 to 20 practice tests on their own time. It takes most students about 10-12 weeks of tutoring to complete my comprehensive preparation program.
Individual Tutoring Rates
$350 per 110 minutes lesson. All materials are provided.
Before I take any new individual tutoring students, I require a consultation session, which must be attended by the student and parent(s). During the consultation, I discuss college preparation in general and SAT/ACT preparation, in specific. I also detail the workload and my expectations of the student. Finally, I determine how a particular student is likely to benefit from my style of tutoring. I charge a $350 for this 1.5–2 hour appointment.

Small Group Tutoring for the SAT I & ACT
Group lessons are only recommended for students with closely-matched abilities. Among such students, group tutoring can bring out a positive competitive spirit. In contrast, when there is a significant difference in students’ abilities (usually 80 points or greater for each section of the SAT or 2 points or greater for each section of the ACT), then small group tutoring can fail to instill self-confidence and may be counterproductive. Small groups of two or three students may be accepted for tutoring if the students’ skills are closely matched.
I do not arrange groups; they must be prearranged by the students.
Small Group Tutoring Rates
Two students: $500 per 110 minute session
Three students: $600 total per 110 minute session
